what aic offers

Proof-of-Concept, non-dilutive grants consistent with those offered through the partner program. Grants may be used for market research, prototype development and other commercialization activities rather than for basic research.

Services, advice and introductions – AIC offers five broad lines of support to academic innovators, customized to their specific needs. These aim to help innovators explore paths and take steps toward commercialization prior to raising institutional capital or even making the decision to form a new venture:

Access to Legal Advice and Support regarding (i) incorporation of a new venture and other formation matters; (ii) the negotiation and acquisition of intellectual property rights; and (iii) research of applicable regulatory matters.

Advice and support on building a Founding Team through recruiting and “matchmaking” with experienced entrepreneurs.

Advice regarding the creation of a Business Plan/ Business Model Canvas and Pitch Decks that may be used with prospective funding sources and team members. For philanthropic ventures, this could include help developing a theory of change and impact measurement strategies to attract foundation and other funding.

Advice regarding the range of possible Downstream Funding Sources—including traditional venture, impact investments and purely philanthropic, along with introductions to each type of funder as appropriate.

Support in conducting Market Research and Analyses to assess product/market fit and the commercial viability/sustainability of an innovation.

A Flexible, Bespoke and Hands-on Approach: As an independent, privately-funded philanthropic entity, AIC enjoys great flexibility regarding the speed and terms of support, unconstrained by budget cycles or strict rules.
