PAUL M. WORK

Paul is an experienced operator, mentor, advisor and board member who has worked for much of his career with academic entrepreneurs. With two UCSF professors, Paul co-founded Siprean to use advanced waveform signal processing and AI to predict patient deterioration in acute care settings. He was also COO of Iris, AO, a Cal-incubated MEMS adaptive optics start-up with four UCB post-docs in the basement of the Bancroft Hotel. He has experience in both impact and angel investing, chairing the investment committee for Tech Coast Angel’s ACE Funds, leading 35+ investments for this $15+ Mil. angel fund. Earlier in his career, he held product management leadership positions at venture-backed Calico Commerce (KPCB/Mayfield) and Digital Tools (Mohr, Davidow).

Paul also has deep F500 sales and business development experience. Paul founded and led the vertical Industry Solutions (Sales) Group at Ariba where he spearheaded the company’s enterprise-wide verticalization of its offerings and built its first formal ROI methodology and sales team. He also led key business development efforts at McKesson around RFID and transaction processing and at Oracle for its Online Sales Group.

Paul has deal experience in M&A, financings, and technology licensing, both in corporate development and as a transactional attorney at Latham & Watkins, where he started his career before realizing it was more fun to actually be in business than to document and argue over it. Paul graduated summa cum laude from Dartmouth and has JD and MBA degrees from Stanford. Except for one Saturday each fall, he’s an avid supporter of UCB.
